Another 1st for Lodge Prestwick 1060

For the first time in living memory Lodge Prestwick 1060 were invited to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph in Prestwick on Remembrance Sunday. Around 25 Brethren turned out on the day.

Homecoming ceilidh

On Saturday 3rd October, members of the Lodge attended a homecoming ceilidh in the Grand Hall in Kilmarnock which was hosted by the Provincial Grand Lodge of Ayrshire.
250 people attended the event which was very well organised by the members of Provincial Grand Lodge. An excellent night was enjoyed by all, and true to form, the Prestwick members were the last to leave.

Station 15 Ayr hospital receives £1060.00

On Saturday 22nd of August Lodge Prestwick 1060 were the guests for the annual charity bowling match between themselves and Prestwick Bowling Club. The venue was the bowling club at Midton Road in Prestwick. The event was as ever very well supported by both experienced bowlers and total beginners who came together to raise money for charity.

The winning team on the day were the members of Lodge Prestwick 1060. The sum raised was enhanced by the Provincial Grand Lodge of Ayrshire tournament held on the Sunday. The money from both events was further added to by Jean Shearer of Prestwick Bowling Club which brought the total raised to around £1000. The Lodge recognised this excellent sum of money should be rounded off to a more manageable number, ie £1060. 

Paul Noble and Alison Pyper from Station 15 the Oncology Department of Ayr Hospital received a cheque for £1060.00 from RWM Robert, Bowling Club Lady President Anne McAtear, Jean Shearer and Gents President Jimmy Gibson.

Bro. William McCulloch a member of Prestwick 1060 since 1948

On 5 August the RWM Bro. Robert McLauchlan visited Bro. William McCulloch and presented him with a Diamond Certificate to mark his sixty years in the lodge.
As can be seen from the photograph Bro. Bill was delighted to be honoured in this way and he has many fond memories of the Lodge right back to 1948.

Bro. Robert said "This was a great way to mark the centenary of the Lodge as it was on 5 August 1909, 100 years ago today that the lodge Charter was granted. Bill, who is now ninety-two is in great spirits and it was a pleasure to reminisce with him".

RWM Robert McLauchlan & RWPGM Archie Chalmers

On June 24 2009 the P.G.L.A. held its quarterly communication in lodge Prestwick 1060 in recognition of 1060's Centenary year. 

The RWM Bro. Robert McLauchlan said "It was a privilege to host this meeting and wonderful to see the lodge full to capacity. Due to the volume of hot air on the night our air conditioning was tested to the full (it was a warm evening)." 

The photograph shows the PGM and the RWM chilling out after the meeting.


Sponsored walk from Lodge Troon Navigation No.86 to Lodge Prestwick No.1060 (May 2009)

The Troon to Prestwick Charity Walk in May raised a grand total of £669.00. This money was raised by Bro. Jamie Walker, RWM Robert McLaughlan and PM John Trousdale.
This fantastic sum of money has been rounded up by the lodge and will be presented to
South Ayrshire Dementia Support Association  £500.00

Combat Stress (Hollybush House)              £500.00
 


The photographs show the RWM Robert and PM John getting prepared - at the lodge door with Bro. Treasurer Alex - and Bro. Jamie and his son Jaydn, who unlike the others, were non the worse at the finish.

Bro. Secretary John Swiatek and his dog also took part in the walk however Dusty the dog refused to be photographed with John. 

The RWM said "Once again I am very grateful to Lodge Troon Navigation for their hospitality prior to the walk and our members and their families and friends who support us in these Charity Walks and I look forward to presenting this money to these very worthy charities".

Lodge Irvine St Andrew 149 claimed the Travelling Mallet on Thursday 22 October 2009.

The Travelling Mallet winners 2008 - 09

Lodge Prestwick 1060 were the final holders of the Ayrshire Travelling Mallet for the year 2008 -2009 and during that time the prize fund accumulated £160.00. The Lodge added a further £20.00 to the total which allowed us to donate £60.00 to each of the three Boys Brigade Companies in Prestwick.

Presentation to the Supported Learning Dept. 21 March 2009

RWM Robert McLaughlan presented a cheque for £1300 to Head Teacher Jane Happs from the Supported Learning Department based at Queen Margaret Academy in Ayr.

The money was raised at a Charity Dance organized by Willie and Anne Marie Harper.

The photograph shows Robert and Willie handing over the cheque to Jane who was accompanied by some of her colleagues, parents and pupils.

Robert said “This was a tremendous effort by Willie and Anne Marie and on behalf of the Lodge I would like to thank them and everyone else who gave their very generous support”.
